The cost of an industrial ESS depends on its power and capacity. As an estimate: a 200 kW / 460 kWh system costs PLN 800,000–1,500,000 net. With annual savings of PLN 150,000–300,000, the payback period is 4–7 years. Subsidies and project financing are available.
What is peak shaving and how does an energy storage system reduce costs?
Peak shaving is a strategy where an energy storage system automatically supplements electricity consumption during peak times, reducing the maximum power drawn from the grid. This directly lowers the capacity and distribution charges on the invoice — by up to several hundred thousand PLN annually for large plants.
What battery technologies are available for industrial ESS?
The dominant technology is LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries — safe, with 4,000–6,000 cycles and a lifespan of 15+ years. For specific applications, we also use NMC technology or flow (vanadium) systems. We select the technology based on the operating profile and customer requirements.
Can an energy storage system be combined with a photovoltaic installation?
Yes — integrating ESS with photovoltaics is an optimal solution. The storage system collects surplus photovoltaic production and releases energy when production is low or market prices are high. Self-consumption increases from 30–40% (PV only) to over 85% (PV + ESS).
